Interactive Poster

This project was developed during the first module of my Creative Technology bachelor’s as part of the Programming course. The assignment was to create an interactive, animated interpretation of a public service poster. Together with a partner, I chose to focus on COVID-19 travel restrictions — particularly the need for quarantine after returning from abroad.

We created a Processing sketch featuring a playful yet symbolic environment where a boat and a plane travel between the UK and the Netherlands. Users can click on these vehicles to send them back, representing a controlled effort to reduce unnecessary travel. The scene includes several interactive elements: a windmill that spins faster when any key is pressed, a draggable fishing rod that attracts nearby fish, and a sun-and-moon cycle that changes the environment between day and night. Real-time functionality was added by integrating the current time into the face of Big Ben.

The project was written in Java using Processing and focused on using key and mouse events to build a dynamic scene. Each element was designed to respond intuitively to user actions, encouraging exploration while communicating the broader message of awareness and control during a global pandemic.

This was my first introduction to creative coding and interactive systems, and it taught me how to combine animation, logic, and user interaction to communicate a concept in a visual and engaging way.
